19th century Sioux squaw axe circa 1880-1890. It measures 18 1/4 inches long and has a forged iron head that measures 6 1/4 inches long x 4 3/4 inches wide. The original handle has some incised designs of what looks like a turtle on one side and a figure on the other. The gripping area is notch-cut and there is an old buckskin thong. There is an touchmark symbol inscribed deeply into the blade, but no other maker's marks. The forge weld lapis visible. the The entire piece has a nice overall patina, with minor dings and nicks from use. This is a style of belt axe often used by Plains Indian women for felling small trees, chopping wood and general camp work. $540
Very Old English Firemans Axe, stamped GR - possibly British royal cipher indicating Georgeus Rex or King George., condition is good - woodworm in handle has been fully treated, cleaned & polished. Very similar to a naval boarding ax. $300
