Late 1800's Sioux Squaw Axe with Original Carved Handle
19th century Sioux squaw axe circa 1880-1890. It measures 18 1/4 inches long and has a forged iron head that measures 6 1/4 inches long x 4 3/4 inches wide. The original handle has some incised designs of what looks like a turtle on one side and a figure on the other. The gripping area is notch-cut and there is an old buckskin thong. There is an touchmark symbol inscribed deeply into the blade, but no other maker's marks. The forge weld lapis visible. the The entire piece has a nice overall patina, with minor dings and nicks from use. This is a style of belt axe often used by Plains Indian women for felling small trees, chopping wood and general camp work. [AN2007] $540.00

EARLY BLODGETT NO.0 TOMAHAWK HATCHET
This "BLODGETT CAST STEEL 0" tomahawk is in nice shape with no rust or pitting. The head is 7" long with a 2 3/4" wide blade. The 12" long handle has a short split near the head caused by a nail that someone used to tighten the head. It's tight now. The handle also has some black tape that's probably there for a better grip since I don't see any splits. I'm pretty sure the handle is original. $250.00. The following quote is from Tom Lamond:

BLODGETT EDGE TOOL CO. Manchester, New Hampshire 1853-1862

"The Amoskeag Ax Company succeeded the Blodgett Edge Tool Co. who had been in business from 1853-1862. Underhill continued to use some of the earlier brands until 1889-90 when they became part of the American Axe & Tool Company. The A. A. & T. Co. also continued to use some brands." $180.00
